I will admit it...

I am slightly O-C-D about my garden.

Sure I love weeds! Most of them are actually healthful and healing herbs that are just misunderstood.

PictureMy overrun lavender flower bed - not a pretty sight at all.
A few of them can be quite pretty to look at (Forget-Me-Nots, SnowDrops etc) but some of them?

They are just downright painful!

My newly declutter lavender bed, mulched and weed free! Did not last long... 2 months later it was overrun again ;-/

Eco Mum's Best All
Natural Weed Killer

I have a lavender bed full of strong and robust Lavender bushes. A couple of them are French and some of them are English.

I love them and use the leaves and flowers in cooking, kombucha - a whole bunch of things.

The flower bed was over run with weeds!

I cleared it out and just a few months later they were back! ARGH!

So, I decided I was mad... I was annoyed... I was ticked off! Time to get even with these damn weeds!

Here is my weed killer recipe - it works REALLY well, so well in fact that I am going to try it out on the English Ivy snaking around my cypress tree.
You will need:

1 litre of cheap vinegar
1 cup of Epsom Salts
A squirt or two of dishwashing liquid

** I do not advocate the use of cheap, synthetic white vinegar and suggest you use something eco-friendly and grey water safe as dishwashing liquid. Low sodium is a must which is why I use Epsom Salts which are full of minerals and not table or cooking salt. Sodium or salt will affect the water table and any nearby plants.

Pour all ingredients into a bucket and mix thoroughly until Epsom Salts have dissolved.

Pour into spray bottles for targeted weed control or a weed sprayer for all over weed carnage. Weeds will start to shrivel within an hour or two and by the end of day one they will be browning and dying. Its awesome!

Its a pretty powerful weed killer, is very gentle compared to anything you can buy and cheap to produce.

To kill back larger 'weeds' like Privot and Cottoneaster or Ivy, spray the leaves first. Then drill a hole or holes into the base of the plant / trunk and pour the weed killer into the holes.

Repeat weekly and the tree will die enabling you to pull it out.

What's your go-to weed carnage set up? How do you control weeds in your garden? Tell our readers so we can all benefit from your knowledge!

Thanks for reading and happy weeding!
