Rhonda Hetzel (author) is an inspiration! Truly. Here is her blog: well worth a read:
Since then, I've planted some heirloom carrots and broccoli (the two main winter staples of our diets) that I picked up from the local co op.
I have ordered a bulk delivery of organic meat which comes this week - that will go into our deep freeze, saving a tonne of money and excess packaging.
I potted and repotted about 100 plants (no - seriously, at least that many) in 2 days and have them feeding of kelp mix (leftover from something I bought a while back) and herbal infusion remnants.
I have a Vacola Preserving kit and a food dehydrator so I can save some of the apples from our tree this year and preserve all the excess produce we will (hopefully) er... produce.
We are getting a stainless steel rainwater tank installed and a smaller one with a solar powered pump for using our washing machine, sink and shower water on our gardens. I have a lot of new plants going in and there's a lot more water needed than ever before. Thought now was a good time to get a good tank setup happening so we aren't wasting any water. Can't WAIT for that installation!!
We've got our new fireplace installed, a combustion heater complete with DIY hearth. Sean did an amazing job on that one! Its been fueled wholly and soley by the felled trees and big branches that came down in the storms to hit Sydney last year.
I struggle with anxiety alot and often find it hard to unwind and let go, to relax. Getting my hands into dirt, cutting and carting firewood and loads of soil has been SUCH a help in that sense! Even my daughter gets entertained watching me work - pulling earth out of the pots I've just potted and flinging it everywhere. Such a helpful little Vegemite!
And now I have an organic lamb shoulder on the roast which will be matched with roast organic sweet potato, organic cauliflower and broccoli in herbed butter... because Simple Living is all about cooking from scratch!
How are you living simply now? Tell me all about it. I'm very inspired to hear!
Love and lovin' for the simple living,
