Being a studying Naturopath and herbal obsessive, I decided that surely there was a way to treat this condition naturally.
I have a good deal of knowledge about adrenal disfunction and natural therapies, having self-managed and cured my diagnosed Non-Addisons Hypoadrenia; a condition where your adrenal glands are so fatigued that they start to shut down. It is also a condition known by very few practitioners and there are not many treatment options available.
Did you know also that a lot of human supplements can be given to dogs for similar conditions – with great results and no side effects?
To treat his Cushing’s Disease, we use a variety of herbs including burdock root (liver and blood cleanser, detoxifier) dandelion (digestive and urinary comfort) Stinging Nettle (arthritic pain), lean raw beef mince, eggs and milk (protein – essential for treatment of Cushing’s Disease) and cooked brown rice or quinoa (fibre and carbohydrates).
Our precious poochy also gets a variety of dietary and vitamin supplements for his condition including Glucosamine and Condroitonin for his arthritis and flaxseed and fish oil for his Cushing’s and to prevent degenerative disease. I have also started giving him Vitamin C in his food each night as his adrenal glands, being overworked due to suffering Cushing’s Disease, need more support than ever.
Our next step is to use homeopathy to manage his condition, should it worsen over time as he continues to age. I am confident however that what we are doing now is working very well and is the right path for him.
Long story short, we have been successfully managing his condition very well now to the point where his symptoms are all but gone. Not one needle, not one tablet has crossed his snout since diagnosis and that’s the way it shall remain, unless dire straits should occur.
What kind of natural therapies or remedies have you used for your dog or cat? Tell me about them!
