Thanks to not having enough sleep, too many visitors & too many trips (weddings, birthdays etc) I got rundown & it came on again whilst away visiting my family on the north coast this week.
So, rather than take a dive for 3 - 5 days on penicillin & have to toss all my milk away I thought “Right - I am going to hit this thing hard & fast with everything I found for infections...without drugs!”
You’ll need (DAILY):
- 4 - 6 cloves of sliced garlic
- Organic orange juice (or some berry juice - lots of antioxidants)
- Echinacea tincture
- Vitamin C tablets / powder / liquid (1000mg per dose; 3 doses at a time)
- Nursing tea
- Olive leaf extract
- Sleep / eye mask
- Lavender oil
- Extra 2 - 3 hours sleep
Step 2: Take 2 (not 1 but 2) nursing tea bags, add 30 drops of echinacea tincture, hot water and down it every other 2 hours
Step 3: Add 2 - 3 drops of lavender oil to your eye / sleep mask. Then... Sleep. As often as possible for as long as possible.
Step 4: Drink 4 - 8 glasses of water a day, every day till you feel better. Continue it if possible indefinitely...
Step 5: Take 1 tablespoon of Olive Leaf Extract every couple of hours (its not nice so you may want to add it to your OJ & have it that way).
Step 6: Repeat daily until you feel like a million dollars again (or even just $100 will do...!)
The nursing tea is really mastitis related however if you’re sick with the flu or some other infection then you will benefit from nursing tea if you’re still breastfeeding. You need your body to continue to produce milk though not at the expense of your health. So, having the nursing tea will help your body keep producing milk whilst it uses the other goodies you’re feeding it to fight off the infection.
It took me 2 days of this to go from feeling like utter crap with sore, tender boobies & lack of milk to being back on top of the world as the jersey cow I formally was once again.
ALSO the whole "no garlic whilst breastfeeding" thing appears to be utter crap, nothing more than an old wives tale that has been somehow lost in translation. Conducted thorough research (as didn't want bubba to be sick on top of it all) before giving her my garlic laced breastmilk. She not only took on more milk than normal, she kept it down more than normal & seemed happier after her feeds of this said milk. Studies have found that babies seem to prefer milk that had a garlic flavour to it (click here for more information if you're worried).
So in short - garlic was fine. Echinacea was fine. Olive Leaf Extract was fine. Bubba was as happy as Larry & no major changes in demeanor. Poo changed colour - went darker however after I stopped taking everything, it went back to normal colour again.
I threw in a chamomile poultice (drank some chamomile blossom tea, used the leftover tea dregs in a hanky & put it in my bra for a few hours) for good measure & popped some potatoe slices into my bra positioned on the sore areas. Worked a treat - soreness gone within a few hours. ThankGOD coz it hurts like hell!
