So, to make cultured oranges or lemons Iâll give you the basics and you can start to play around with flavours and fruits to your taste.
Homemade Eco Mum Cultured Oranges
You will need:
4-6 organic oranges
80ml whey (instructions here to make homemade whey)
1 teaspoon Celtic Sea Salt
80g unrefined organic cane sugar or rapadura sugar
1 crushed cinnamon stick (optional)
Filtered or pure water or water that has been left to stand for 24 hours so the chlorine can evaporate
Store in a cool, dark place overnight for 3 nights then transfer to the fridge.
You can use this in place of marmalade if blended together a bit. You can also have the oranges with dark chocolate for a lovely treat or spoon over kefir or muesli for a sweet and sour flavour with lots of beneficial goodies in it.
You can do the same with lemons, limes and even grapefruits if you want! Play around with flavours and citrus fruits to decide what you like best â a great way to quickly preserve your excess fruits each week.
